People

- Together for a Better Dublin

My vision is for Dublin to be a place where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. I believe in practical, progressive policies that address immediate needs and lay the groundwork for long-term prosperity. Let's forge a better future for our entire community. The reason I am putting my name on the ballot paper is, I believe, we need a fresh, independent voice to represent our area. I am sick of broken promises from political parties.

  • I got a new A&E department for Beaumont Hospital included in the programme for Government.
  • I got over €100 million of new funding for the Cystic Fibrosis unit in Beaumont Hospital included in the health budget.
  • I got funding to expand services for people with disabilities, ensuring access to healthcare, education, employment and public spaces. We need more investment in day residential and respite care, more personal assistant hours and reducing waiting times for assessment of all needs.
  • We still need to address the shortage of special needs assistance (SNA's), especially for students with autism and provide more specialised training. Every child deserves a chance to thrive.
  • With 230,000 children living in poverty. I strongly support a second tier of child benefit for low income families to reduce child poverty rates. This is an investiment in our future.
- Youth Facilities

Youth facilities serve a crucial role in supporting young people's personal development, social connections, and overall well-being. They need to offer a safe and supervised environment for young people to interact with peers, participate in activities, and build relationships. These facilities will provide opportunities for personal growth, such as developing new skills, exploring interests, and building confidence.

Sports facilities are of particular importance. I am currently helping out Raheny Unitied Football Club with their new dressing rooms.

Science

Solutions need to be based on evidence based science.

- Climate Change

We're 30 years too late to stave off climate change with emission reductions. I've developed a policy paper to support research by other jurisdictions into methods to buy us time until we hit net zero. It is imperative that we do not hit 2 °C warming as this will put the Gulf Stream at risk, which will in turn lead to Ireland facing a Canadian type winters and an addition 1 meter sea level rise because the Gulf stream currently supresses our sea level.

e.g. Nuclear Energy: I don't have any hang-ups about nuclear energy, however it is not the solution for Ireland, it is far too expensive takes too long to build. The UK Hinkey point looks like it will come in more than 5 years late with a final price tag of €50 billion. That's € 10,000 for every person in the country.

Wind, Solar, Batteries and Private Wires are the scientific cost-effective solution to Ireland's growing energy needs.

Business

- Lower Electricity Costs

Grid Reform + simplifying electricity bills, I have a strong team with detailed knowledge on the problems that our outdated and over complicated grid code creates. Complexity means more options to hide margin and makes it far more difficult to shop around for the best deal for your business. Solar, Wind, Batteries and Private Wires will make an enormous difference to the cost of energy if they are embraced wholeheartedly.

- Less Red Tape

I continue to fight for less regulation only for its own sake. Lets not forget that businesses in Ireland provide the golden egg that keeps the show on the road.

- Lower VAT rate for Fruit Smooties and ACAI

Cafes are having a hard time making ends meet, I am adovicating for the lower VAT rate on soft drinks, fruit juices and ACAI bowls. It's madness that items that YOUNG people buy all have VAT rate of 23%. It's essentially is a tax against youth and fun.

- Road Closures

Compensation for busiesses effected by road closures. For example, delays building the cycle paths through Clontarf nearly bankrupted local businesses that found themselves barriered off from their customers for months. Not even a rates reduction by way of "sorry about that".

Read more on my substack.

Private Wires

- Lower Electricity Costs

It is currently illegal to sell electricity to your neighbour. This "simple rule" is holding up Billions in investments. I got a commitment that this will be overturned in 2025.

This is worth BILLIONs to the Irish economy. This will break ESB Networks bottleneck on projects, both on the consumption side and on the renewable energy side. I personally know of several large solar projects (5MW) slated for old landfill sites held up for close to a decade.

According to the Eirgrid TRANSMISSION DEVELOPMENT PLAN 2012 - 2022 "There is a further 13.3 GW of wind generation and 9.5 GW of other types of generation in the applications queue". Private Wires (mostly underground) will open up an alternative grid connection opportunity for these projects.

More details on my substack. (I really get into the weeds).

Housing Crisis

Housing Targets: Target of 60,000 homes per annum for 25 years, utilising modern construction methods (modular homes).

Affordable Housing: advocate for more affordable homes, ensuring everyone has a place to call home.

Tenants Rights: strengthen renter protections, increase RTB powers for both landlords and tenants and campaign for lower taxes to bring more landlords into the market.

Sustainable Development: ensure all developments include plans for schools, shops, public transport access and green areas.

Planning Reforms: relax planning laws to convert derelict sites and vacant spaces above city centre shops into homes, revitalising Dublin city centre, similar to Seville and Paris.

Supporting Health

Mental Health Services: expand access to mental health support as Ireland is one of the highest rates of mental illness in Europe (18.5% of the population).

Awareness campaign: promote mental health awareness and fight stigma nearly half of those affected dont seek help.

Youth programs: develop programs to address youth mental health challenges as one and four young people in Ireland experience anxiety or depression.

More funding and support for Beaumont Hospital, St. Francis Hospice and St. Joseph's Hospital, Raheny.

Implement all aspects of the dementia strategy.

Transparency and accountability is urgently needed rebalance of spending director towards dealing with the unacceptable waiting list for children with life threatening conditions such as scoliosis

Local Infrastruture

Public Transport: I will strive to improve transport by increasing bus, train and tram frequency, reducing delays and ensuring full accessibility. Prioritise affordability and better connections between urban and suburban areas.

Community Facilities: upgrade community centres, parks and recreational areas. Increase the number of refuse bins in busy areas.

Flood Prevention: implement effective flood relief measures to protect homes and businesses around Dublin Bay.

Seperated Cycle Tracks: Cycling takes traffic off the roads, its healthy, fast and efficient. The biggest barrier to more people cycling is the risk of a traffic accident. What is a "fender bender" for a motorist, lands a cyclist in hospital or worse. Seperating this cycling from traffic is the sensible way to go. I strongly support the greenway across Dublin. This is one area the Greens have got right.

Immigration

I want more dignified, proactive approach to immigration, focusing on dialogue between communities and government.

We need a structured sustainable plan that balances immigration and addresses the lack of investment in critical infrastructure and housing.

There should be zero tolerance of racism.
